Caregivers in the Hills Appreciation Day Celebrates More Than 200 Members

Hills of Headwaters Collaborative Ontario Health Team’s (HOHC OHT) Caregivers in the Hills program held the second annual caregivers appreciation day on June 23, 2024. The event celebrated unpaid caregivers in Dufferin County and Town of Caledon who provide mental, physical or emotional support to family members, friends or neighbours. The day also included a celebration of more than 200 members reached by the Caregivers in the Hills program this year.

According to Statistics Canada, more than 13.4 million Canadians older than 15 years old provide unpaid care to a loved one or friend, and more than 1.8 million Canadians are “sandwiched” between caring for both younger and older age groups, making them “sandwich caregivers.” Sandwich caregivers are often balancing other family and career demands, putting them at a higher risk for stress than other caregivers.

HOHC OHT aims to provide much-needed recognition, respite and resources to those who dedicate themselves to the care of others in our community. The event featured music, local resources, lunch and refreshments, speakers, entertainment and more.

Caregivers in the Hills is a free program for caregivers in Dufferin/Caledon run by HOHC OHT. The program aims to provide support, validate and recognize the role of an unpaid caregiver as they assist in the care of their loved one(s). To learn more about the program, visit
